    Stumbled across this video doing research on the psoas. So glad I found it! I have a degenerative L5 disc that’s been diagnosed since this February, but have been dealing with lower back pain and issues for the last 5 years (ever since I started working full time after college my lower back started to hurt – go figure)

    After watching your video here I’m coming to the conclusion that all the sitting, poor posture, lack of regular strengthening exercises lead to the tightening of my psoas, among other things, and is probably the root of my problems. My physical therapists keep telling my my psoas/hipflexors are locked, way to tight, etc. I tried the release & stretch and I think it helped. I will continue to do the release and see how it goes.

    Thanks for all your videos and information. It’s proving to be a good source of information on my road to recovery. Soon I will be standing upright all of the time! (One can only hope at least). Keep ’em coming!

    How do I strengthen the psoas? Do you have exercises on that? This video was great on the release! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    Michael:
    I thought I was in great shape – from Jan 13 to July 13 I went from 264lbs to 219lbs. We traveled to Puerto Rico where I zip-lined with my wife & daughters on 9 total zip-lines. The instructor told us to tuck up our legs and don’t spin on the line to avoid going backwards at 40-60mph into the end location. I was using all my core strength to keep from doing that. Not to mention climbing around 1000 or so stairs thru the rain forest. At the end of the day I had fun – but a few days later I noticed a pulling that I couldn’t tell if it was in my abdominals or my left lower back. I let it go for about 6 weeks and finally the Dr. saw me and said strained back. I did go to PT and she said iliopsoas Strain. After a month or so – they sent me for an MRI – which said L4/L5 & L5/s1 had major 9mm bulges and impingment of root nerves. Fast forward to February – I got injections into my lower back but psoas area still cramps then back then sciatica.

    I need some help please. What are the stretches and who can I get to release the psoas?
